Verna Beckstead
Verna Beckstead died on Oct. 18, 2002 at Dundas
Manor Nursing Home in Winchester after a brief illness. She was
92.
She was wife of the late Fred Beckstead, who she married on Feb.
2, 1929 in Winchester Springs.
She was born in Williamsburg Township to Carrie (nee Whitteker)
and James Hanson. A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area,
she was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Matilda
Rebekah Lodge #342 for 34 years.
Mrs. Beckstead is survived by children Doris (Don) Scobie of Brockville;
Keith (Shirley) of Williamsburg; and Paul (Sandra) of Iroquois.
She will be sadly missed by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter Lois Hummel, grandson Barry Beckstead,
sister Phyllis Helmer and brother Aden Hanson.
She enjoyed playing cards. In her earlier years, she enjoyed travelling
and the time she spent at the cottage on Newboro Lake with her
family and friends.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Sun., Oct. 20. A Rebekah Lodge service was also held on Oct.
20.
Interment was on Oct. 21 at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg
with Rev. Peter Hincke officiating.
Pallbearers were Don Wells, John Devries, Don Garlough, Ralph
Barkley, Randy McIntosh and Gord Spearman.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital or the Canadian
Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
