Nettie Hutt
Nettie Hutt of Morrisburg died on Dec. 15,
2002 at Ottawa General Hospital. She was 72.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1930 in Brinston. She was a housewife
until Angela was born. She then took a job at the drugstore in
Arnprior. After moving back to Winchester, she worked as a receptionist
for Dr. Byers and Dr. Wells for a period of time before taking
a job as executive secretary to the nursing supervisor at Winchester
District Memorial Hospital. She retired from the hospital in 1986.
Her family moved to Morrisburg when she was three years old and
she went to school and grew up in Morrisburg. She and Don lived
in Arnprior, Winchester and Iroquois, before returning to Morrisburg
three years ago. She wanted to spend her remaining years in Morrisburg
where she felt most at home.
Her parents were the late Alfred Gamble and Grace Gamble (nee
Pemberton). She is survived by her husband Donald Hutt, whom she
married on June 12, 1950 at the Lakeshore Drive United Church
Manse.
She is survived by children Debbie (Don) Mabo of Morrisburg, Robert
of Morrisburg, Brian (Dawn) of Ottawa, Barry of Kingston and Angela
(Mike) Holmes of Morewood. Also surviving are brother Dick Gamble
(Doris Marcellus) of Johnstown and sister Joyce McIntosh of Winchester.
Brothers and sisters-in-law include Raymond McIntosh of Winchester,
Francis (Elaine) Hutt of Kingston, Norbert (Diane) Hutt of Winchester
and Doreen (Gay) Alexander of Kemptville.
She was predeceased by great-grandson Joshua Mabo-Hummel; brother
Alfred; sisters Betty MacDonald, Irene McIntosh and Shirley Eastman;
and brother-in-law Gordon McIntosh.
She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Tanya, Amanda,
Amber, Tobi, Colin and Hunter; and great-grandchildren Cassie,
Julenea, Mia and Maddison.
In her earlier years, Nettie enjoyed swimming, skating, playing
sports (especially ball), and fishing with her Dad. Fun and recreation
in the 1940s and 1950s could be found every Saturday night at
Casselman's Dance Hall which is where she met her husband Don.
After she and Don were married, Don went away to the Korean War
and he returned in December of 1951.
After marriage, sports for Nettie centred around bowling and later
in life lawn bowling. She played an active role as hockey-Mom
for the Winchester Hawks Jr. "B" team, never missing
a game in eight years. Her love of sports continued through the
years and she attended all of her children's and grandchildren's
sporting events.
One of the greatest thrills for her came when her granddaughters
Tanya and Amanda Mabo broke the norm and played boys hockey. In
the past few years, her love of sports continued by watching sports
on TV. Over the years there were many changes, but one thing that
never changed was her love for her family, and she will be dearly
missed by each member of her family.
A private family funeral service was held at the Marsden and McLaughlin
Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Dec. 18, followed by cremation.
The service was officiated by Rev. Mark Ehlebracht. Interment
followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be appreciated
by the family.
