Gerald Link
Gerald Link of Riverside Heights, a lifetime
resident of the Morrisburg area, died in Winchester on Tues.,
June 25, 2002. He was 85.
He was the beloved husband of Maxine Link (nee Merkley), whom
he married on March 20, 1943 at Lakeshore Drive United Church
Manse, Morrisburg. He was the loving father of Marie (Ralph) Marcellus
of Riverside Heights.
He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Bert (Sandi) Marcellus,
Ron Marcellus, Cathy (Jay) St. Pierre, and great-grandchildren
Austin, Rayanna, Aleisha and Bryce. Also survived by nieces and
nephews. Predeceased by brothers Clayton and Russell.
Mr. Link was born on Sept. 24, 1916 in Matilda Township to the
late James and Catherine Link (nee Droppo).
Mr. Link was a farmer in his earlier years, but in 1955 he and
his wife sold the farm to make way for construction of the St.
Lawrence Seaway. After selling the farm, he worked for the St.
Lawrence Parks Commission for several years before retiring in
1973.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather
who was very proud of his family. He loved gardening, dancing,
playing cards and socializing in general.
He was a member of Lakeshore Drive United Church, Morrisburg and
a former member of the Zeta Oddfells Lodge #311, Morrisburg, and
the Canadian Order of Forresters Lodge.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be
appreciated by the family.
Funeral service was held at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home,
Williamsburg on Thurs., June 27 with Rev. Jean Udall officiating.
Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Mariatown.
Pallbearers were Bert Marcellus, Ron Marcellus, Jay St. Pierre,
Richard Brown, Russell Schwerdtfeger and Graham Link.
