David Donald Mackie
David Donald Mackie of Edwards
died peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Wed., Aug. 21,
2002 in his 79th year.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Whyte), whom he married
in Ottawa on June 28, 1952. Born on Jan. 26, 1924 in Blackburn
Station, he was the dear son of the late Nicol Mackie Sr. and
Mary (Geymonat). Much loved father of Shirley (Leonard Quinn),
Marilyn (Les James), Glenn (Joanne McWilliams), Stuart (Norma
Lapointe) and the late Darrell. Proud grandpa of Krista, Erin
and Laurie Quinn; and James and Heather Mackie.
Dear brother of Jean (Allison Fawcett), Marion (Ray Hebert), Ruth
(Al Lafortune), Nicol (April MacNamara), Peggy (Russell Scharf),
Donna Clarke and the late Madeline (Ken Atherfold) and Gerald
Mackie (Bonnie Monahan).
Wood hand carvings made by Mr. Mackie were purchased by the Canadian
Museum of Civilization. Mr. Mackie was admired by all for his
keen sense of humor and his generosity in sharing his labors of
love, which were his garden, wheelbarrows and garlic.
Mr. Mackie was a member of the Metcalfe Fair Board and the Seniors
Top Generation Club. He was a member of the Russell United Church
(St. Andrews and St. Paul's United Church).
Memorial donations to the charity of your choice will be gratefully
acknowledged.
Funeral service was held Sat., Aug. 24 at the Russell United Church,
officiated by the Rev. Keith Brown. Interment at Hawthorne Anglican
Cemetery. Duncan Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre entrusted
with arrangements.
Pallbearers were Art Mackie, Peter Mackie, Mark Scharf, David
Fawcett, Bob Geymonat and Mac Campbell.
