Robert Cairnduff McLaughlin
On Fri., Aug. 23, 2002 Dr. Robert C. McLaughlin
will be interred at the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Winchester.
The son of the late Dr. Peter McLaughlin of Winchester, he died
peacefully on Nov. 28, 1998 at his residence in Paris, Ontario,
28 days before his 100th birthday.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mabel McLaughlin (nee Robinson);
father of Joyce McLaughlin of Toronto and Carole Arnott of Oakville;
father-in-law of Don Arnott; and grandfather of Guy Arnott of
Oakville, Joanne Toth and Jim Arnott, both of Delray Beach, Florida.
Born in Winchester in 1898, Dr. McLaughlin enlisted in the Canadian
Armed Services Dental Corps while in the University of Toronto
Dental School, but despite the "time out" he returned
to graduate in 1920 as one of the youngest ever. He subsequently
practised in Paris, Ontario for the next 47 years, interrupted
by a four-year stint in the Second World War with postings in
Aylmer, St. Thomas and finally Ottawa as chief of the Headquarters
Dental Clinic.
Brilliant, articulate and a gentleman in all respects, he is sadly
missed and fondly remembered by his family and all those who were
fortunate enough to have known him.
The time delay for the burial was due to the extraordinary desire
he had to donate his body to medical science at the McMaster University
of Medical Anatomy. Much of this was his, and others', strong
belief that both he and his father had long and brilliant lives
and genes that could possibly contribute to future medical advances
for the benefit of all.
