Gordon Arthur Morrow
Gordon Arthur Morrow, a lifetime resident of
Metcalfe, died on Dec. 30, 2002 at the Township of Osgoode Care
Centre. He was 77.
He is survived by his wife Doris Forget, whom he married in 1987.
His death came after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1925 in Riceville to the late Albert Morrow
and Hazel (nee Reid). A veteran of the Second World War, he apprenticed
as a carpenter upon leaving active duty. He was a building contractor
from 1962 until his retirement.
Mr. Morrow is survived by his daughter Debbie Payne of Kemptville
and son Don Edwards. Surviving step-children are Ron Gallinger
of Metcalfe and Karen Benoit (Chad) of Winchester. He will be
missed by grandchildren Tiffany Bertrand (Ray); Ainsley Shields;
Devon Morrow; Jodi and Sara Gallinger; Joey and Samantha Benoit;
and great-granddaughter Kailey Bertrand. Surviving siblings are
Eleanor May, Evelyn Shore, Helen Sunstrum of Ottawa, Sadie Biccum
of Vancouver and Bert (Brenda) of Calabogie.
He was predeceased by first wife Phyllis Anderson. They married
in 1949 and she died in 1981.
He was a member of the Metcalfe United Church. He was past president
of the Metcalfe Lions Club, past president of the Metcalfe Curling
Club, director of the Ottawa Winter Fair, and a founding member
of the Ottawa Valley Hackney Futurity. A great horseman, he enjoyed
raising, training and showing ponies.
The funeral was at Duncan Funeral Home in Metcalfe on Jan. 2 with
Rev. Cyril Cook officiating. Interment was at Capital Memorial
Gardens.
Pallbearers were nephews Don May, Ron May, Danny Morrow, Michael
Shore, Irvine Sunstrum and Dale Wilson.
