Jens "Jim" Norgaard

Jens "Jim" Norgaard of RR 1 Iroquois died on Wed., June 19, 2002 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. He was 64.
Mr. Norgaard was the beloved husband of Shirley Norgaard (nee Walker), whom he married on Sept. 2, 1961 in Toronto. He was the loving father of Ben (Shelley) of RR 1 Iroquois, Ike of Trenton and Bo of Kingston.
He was a dear brother of Klaus of Port Dover, Anne Nearing of Kingston and Elizabeth (Richard) Plumley of Kingston. Predeceased by son Gregory, brother Thomas and infant sister Elsa.
Mr. Norgaard will be sadly missed by grandsons Paul and Tyler. He was a dear brother-in-law of Douglas (Nava) Walker of Selby, and is also survived by nieces and nephews.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1938 in Odense, Denmark to the late Jorgen and Karen Norgaard (nee Madsen-Mygdal).
Mr. Norgaard was born and raised in Denmark. When he was 16 his family immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm in Sandhurst, near Kingston, where he worked alongside his dad. In addition to helping on the farm, he also worked at the Dupont plant in Kingston. In January 1961 Mr. Norgaard and his wife moved to Denmark for six months, where Mr. Norgaard attended agricultural college. After graduating, they returned to Canada for a short time before moving to California, where Mrs. Norgaard worked in a bank and Mr. Norgaard worked on a huge dairy farm.
After living in California for one year, they returned to the family farm in Sandhurst in 1963 and once again, Mr. Norgaard worked at Dupont while operating the family farm for the next nine years. In 1972 they purchased the farm at RR 1 Iroquois. In the past 30 years, Mr. Norgaard has been primarily a farmer, but he also worked at Ottawa Fibre for the past 10 years. He had planned to retire within the next year so that he could stay at home and return to farming, which he had enjoyed so much throughout his life.
Mr. Norgaard was very knowledgeable with respect to politics and history, and he enjoyed discussing these topics with family and friends. He was a devoted family man who was an avid soccer fan.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Funeral service was held at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg on Sat., June 22 with Rev. Mark Ehlebracht officiating, followed by cremation.
