Orval Fawcett
Orval Fawcett of Metcalfe passed
away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Nov. 7, 2003
after an illness of four months. He was 79.
He was born at Hulbert on April 16, 1924 to the late Spencer Fawcett
and Ruth Fawcett (nee Wright). In his early years, he worked as
a farm laborer on the Prairies and he also worked on ships on
the Great Lakes. He married Vivian (nee Cook) in 1945 and they
purchased a farm in Hulbert where they lived until 1954, when
they purchased a farm in Russell. They farmed at Russell until
1973 when they sold the farm and moved to Winchester. After retiring
from farming, he worked at Upper Canada Village for 15 years,
retiring in 1988. He moved to Metcalfe in 1995, where he lived
for the previous eight years.
He is survived by seven children, Douglas (Nancy) of South Gower,

(Keith) McCormick of Spencerville, Brenda Hanson of Winchester,

(nee Cook) of Winchester, and brothers Fred Fawcett of RR 2 Brinston

Orval loved life. He was a member of both the Ontario Trotting
Association and the South Nation Sportsman Association. He loved
to visit with family and friends. He liked farming and he enjoyed
his work and the good friends he made at Upper Canada Village.
He loved animals and this was evident in the manner in which he
interacted with horses and dogs.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Nov, 10 and Nov. 11. The funeral was held on Nov. 11 as well,
with Rev. Yvonne Willis officiating. Pallbearers were Mathew Hanson,
Perry Brennan, Daryl McCormick, Shane Fawcett, Stephen Denison,
and Mike Vallee. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Barkley, Lyle Baker,
