Thomas McAuley
Thomas McAuley of Metcalfe died
suddenly at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sept. 2,
2003 at the age of 57.
He was born on June 13, 1946 in Ormond. He was the beloved son
of Phyllis McAuley (Brown) of Metcalfe and the late John McAuley.
He was the loving father of Greg (Gina) of White Lake, and Jeff
(Paula) of Goderich. He was the proud grandfather of Meghan, Robbie,
Paul and Grace. He was the dear brother of Ruth Quinn of Kemptville,
Florence (Gary) Bilow of Metcalfe, Joyce (Fred) Brown of Kenmore,
Mary McAuley of Nepean, Bob (Corinne) McAuley of Mississauga,
and Nancy (Robert) Ziegler of Moose Creek. He will be sadly missed
by his nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He retired in June 1996 from Agriculture Canada at the Experimental
Farm after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Osgoode
Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years, eventually
reaching the rank of chief.
Since retirement, he had become the local handyman for his neighbors,
friends and family. He did many renovation jobs, installed hardwood
floors, designed and erected decks and gazebos, as well as maintaining
properties. He completed every job to the best of his ability
with precise attention to detail. He took great pride in his home
and his vehicle, spending many hours ensuring they were maintained
in the best possible condition.
Friends called at the Duncan Funeral Home in Metcalfe on Sept.
4. The funeral service was held in the chapel on Sept. 5 with
Rev. Casey McKibbon officiating. Interment followed at Springhill
Cemetery. Afterwards, a lunch was served at the funeral home.
The pallbearers were Thomas Sullivan, Steven Sullivan, Bryan McAuley
Flood and Robert Ziegler.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be
