Joseph "Hyndman" McMillan
of Williamsburg died on April 15, 2003 at Winchester District
Memorial Hospital. He was 92.
He was born in Williamsburg on Oct. 30, 1910 to the late William
"Arthur" McMillan and Anne (nee Shaw).
He married the late Beatrice McMillan (nee Whittle) in Iroquois
on Oct. 30, 1934 in Iroquois.
He was a retired farmer who took great pride in his purebred Holstein
dairy cattle. He was born on the farm in Elma which was a Crown
grant to his McMillan ancestors. He was raised on the farm and
lived there. In 1991 he moved to the Park Drive Villa in Williamsburg.
Mr. McMillan is survived by children John (Marian) of Chesterville
and Mary (Gordon) Whittaker of Iroquois. He was predeceased by
infant son William Arthur Richard, daughter Martha Ann, brother
Hugh and sisters Martha Black and Retta Carkner.
He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Catherine Van Vliet,
Tracy Ahern, Michael Whittaker and great-grandchildren Emma, William,
Annie and Amelia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives will remember Hyndman for his hospitality,
kindness and keen sense of humor. He was a member of the Elma
United Church.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on April 16. The funeral was at the funeral home on April 17 with
Rev. Sandy Macpherson officiating. Interment was at Maple Ridge
Cemetery in Chesterville.
Pallbearers were Johnny Whitteker, Ferneley Johnston, Gerald McMillan,
John Dalrymple, Bert Loucks and Allan MacKenzie.
