Harold Clark Murdock

Harold Clark Murdock passed away unexpectedly at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Nepean on Aug. 19, 2003. He had resided in Manotick for the previous 20 years. He was 60.
Born in Merrickville on April 22, 1943, he was the younger son of Clark Murdock and Selma (nee Davis). He was raised at Reid's Mills, in the former Mountain Township, and attended the North Mountain Consolidated Public School and Mountain District High School.
His career provided him with an opportunity to travel extensively. Following employment with Dupont in Kingston and the Venus Pencil Company, he joined Canada Post. At Canada Post he became manager of finance for the Toronto plants, director of finance for Western Canada, director of the Time and Attendance Project, and finally, he was director of the Volumes Project carried out by Canada Post Systems Management Ltd. for the West German Post Office.
When he retired, he undertook a number of independent consulting consignments, the first of which was with Citizenship and Immigration Canada on their systems modernization program. He then worked with Price Waterhouse Cooper where he was the project manager for a Canadian International Development Agency project to introduce a taxation system for the government of India.
Family, friends and the farm were his priorities. Retiring at the age of 50, he purchased "the Farm," located on Third Line Road near Kars. This venture provided him with much happiness and many rewards over the following years, where he was content with the country way of life, caring for the livestock and fowl, going to farm auctions, and spending time with his cat, George.
He is survived by wife Gloria (nee Moreton). He will be remembered by children Jane (Andy) Horner of Shawville, Quebec; Lyndon (Patti Tennyson) of South Mountain; Jason of Ottawa; and Jennifer at home. He was the proud grandfather of Ben and Anthony Horner; and Hayden, Liam and McKenna Murdock.
He is survived by his father, Clark, of Kemptville. Surviving siblings are Melvin (Yvonne McDougall) of Osgoode, Muriel (Donald) Allen of Mountain and Dixie Lee (Nick) Vanderstelt of Richmond, BC; as well as their families. He was predeceased by his mother Selma in 1978, and sister Nancy in 1952.
The funeral service was held in the Rideau Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Home in Kars on Aug. 21, officiated by Rev. Barbara Richardson. Interment was at Reid's Mills United Church Cemetery.
The pallbearers were sons Lyndon and Jason Murdock; son-in-law Andy Horner; longtime friend Tom Sury; and nephews Larry and Kevin Allen.
