James Sargent
James Sargent of Chesterville died on March 26, 2003, at Winchester District Memorial Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer. He was 84.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1918 in Williamsburg Township to the late Henry Sargent and Ella (nee Dillabough).
He married Eva Sargent (nee Munro) on June 26, 1957, at the Trinity United Church Manse in Chesterville. She predeceased him on Nov. 10, 1998.
Mr. Sargent spent his entire life as a dairy farmer, raising purebred Holstein cattle on the family homestead. He had a love for chickens which he shared with his wife. At one time they had over 30 different breeds of chickens. Flowers such as irises, peonies and roses graced his gardens. He will always be remembered for these interests.
He is survived by children Carol Sargent of Chesterville and Lorna Sargent of Perth. He was predeceased by brother Bernice Sargent and sister Bertha McIntosh.
He will be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Danny Boy, a favorite song, was played at the beginning of his funeral service. In addition, Sandra Barkley-Probst sang two hymns, Amazing Grace and Good Evening and Good Morning, as part of the service.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on March 28. The funeral took place at the funeral home on March 29, officiated by Rev. Doug Carnegie. Interment was at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Pallbearers were Ron Munro, Garry Elliott, Brian Munro, Gord Elliott, Richard Sharkey and Glen Robinson.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital or the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
