Howard Leduc Annable
Howard Leduc Annable died at his residence in Welland on Jan. 12, 2004. After many victories during a 14-year sparring match with cancer, his body could no longer fight.
He was husband, lover and soulmate of his wife, Kay (nee Irwin). He was son of the late Ken and Emelia Annable of Winchester.
He was the proud father of Thomas Howard (Kerri) Annable of Dundas, and Karen Kathleen (Murray) Joss of Fort Erie.
He was brother of Ruth (Bill) Gibson of Perth, Winson (Jean) Annable of Kingston, Ed (Debbie) Annable of Winchester, Evelyn (Glen) Salter of Winchester, and Steven (Sue) Annable of Winchester.
He was brother-in-law of Doris (Boyd) Taylor of Cornwall; Marni and the late Bert Irwin of Cornwall; and Dr. D. June Irwin of Hudson, Quebec.
He was grandfather of Christopher Annable, Laura Annable, Katie Annable and Tanner Joss. He was special buddy of grandson Cody Joss. He was adored nephew of Doris (Robert) Isabel and Evelyn; and the late Gen McNenley. He was fishing-story spinner friend of Dominic Faragalli of Fonthill.
He graduated from Glebe Collegiate in Ottawa and Queen's University in Kingston. He was employed at Stelco Hilton Works as an electrical engineering supervisor, Page Hersey Works as an electrical engineering supervisor, and at Welland Tubes as superintendent of maintenance. He retired in 1993.
He was presently the business manager of Your Local Productions Inc. of Welland. He was a Scouts Canada leader of 44th Hamilton and 1st Aldershot troops. He was the last leader of the Queen's Scouts and was a Scouts commissioner.
His volunteer activities included local school and theatre activities in the Niagara Region. His was a founding member of Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, on the publicity team of the Thorold Community Theatre, and was involved with the Port Colborne Operatic Society. His passion for gardening and the environment were evident in his organic gardens and pesticide-free lawn.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Hartman and the team of palliative care workers, nurses and personnel who made it possible to let him spend his last days at home. Enduring thanks to Dr. Benger and the staff of the Henderson Cancer Clinic; Dr. Bak and the team at Welland Hospital's emergency department; Dr. Koziarz, nurses and staff of ICU and fourth floor Welland; and the personnel at Para-Med.
