Norman Bell
Norman Bell of RR 4 Winchester
passed away suddenly on June 26, 2004, at the Winchester District
Memorial Hospital. He was born in the former Winchester Township
on October 28, 1923, to the late Howard Bell and Lena (nee Hutt).
He was predeceased by his wife Lois (nee Kerr) whom he married
on July 13, 1946, at the Hallville United Church.
He was the loving father of Russell of Iroquois, Barbara Barkley
of Brockville, Howard (Marilyn) of Vancouver, Joan (Ken) Taylor
of Mississauga and George of Winchester. He was predeceased by
his sister Iva Hamilton and brothers Karl, Lorne, and Ivan.
He was a lifetime resident of the area where he was a beef farmer
and drove a school bus for 32 years.
He will be fondly remembered by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,
and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
His life evolved around his wife, children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Even though the greatest loss of his life
occurred when his beloved Lois died, he continued to surround
himself with family and friends. His passion was the Toronto Maple
Leafs and going to local sporting events with Bill Armstrong and
Arnold Hogaboam. His daily meetings at Sutton's Restaurant included
discussions with other board members of the "Liars Club."
These discussions usually involved how the next game of hockey
should be played and the manner in which the Leafs could defeat
the Ottawa Senators. When the daily meeting at Sutton's was over,
he would then go to Allison's Feed and Farm Depot in Winchester
Springs to catch up on the news of the day, and finally his daily
routine would conclude with a stop at Winchester Service Centre.
In the hockey off-season, his priority became the Toronto Blue
Jays and the Toronto Argonauts. He will continue to cheer for
his family, friends, and all of his beloved teams from an armchair
in a different place.
May he rest in peace.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Wiliamsburg
on June 28 and June 29. The funeral service was held at the funeral
home on June 30 with Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Interment
was at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville.
The pallbearers were Kirk Allison, Ron Blanchard, Junior Helmer,
Pete Kerkhof, Elwood Coons and Kevin Goodwin.
For those wishing, donations to the Winchester District Memorial
Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
