Ytje 'Edith' Devries
Ytje "Edith" DeVries of RR 1 South Mountain
died on Jan. 25, 2004 at home after a one-year illness. She was
62.
She is survived by husband Frank DeVries, whom she married in
Holland on April 7, 1961.
She was born in Oenkerk, the Netherlands on March 29, 1941 to
the late Ritske Sikma and Jeltje (nee Venema).
She lived in Holland and lived there until 1979 when she and her
family immigrated to Canada and bought their farm in South Mountain.
They lived on the farm for 22 years. After their son Oscar moved
to the farm, they moved to the new home they built on the Brinston
Road between Brinston and South Mountain.
She is survived by children Ellen (Rick) Douma of Dixon's Corners,
Oscar (Linda) DeVries of South Mountain, Rick (Tanya) DeVries
of Kemptville, Garner (Dorean) DeVries of Westport and Tina (Rob)
Zersch of South Mountain. Also surviving are brother Piebe, and
sisters Jantje, Tetje, Griet, and Metje, and nephews and nieces.
She was a loving beppe to Christopher, Craig, Nicole, Ryan and
Jenna Douma; Curtis, Jack, Lindsay, and Sean DeVries; Rourke,
Slate and Laird DeVries; Morgan, Jared, Karly, Sierra and Joel
DeVries; and Connor, Taylor, Abby and Carter Zersch.
She was Frank's soul mate for 43 years. She was a loving and dedicated
mother and the ultimate beppe (grandmother). She was a walking
example of God's love, always willing to give, whether it was
visiting the elderly, preparing meals, or any other acts of kindness.
She enjoyed long brisk walks, appreciating nature. She had a gift
for making flowers and plants flourish. She was an active member
of the Community Christian Reformed Church in Dixon's Corners.
Friends called at the Community Christian Reformed Church on Jan.
27. Arrangements were entrusted to Marsden and Mclaughlin Funeral
Homes. The funeral was held at the church with Clarence Witten
officiating. Interment was at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston.
Pallbearers were Rick Douma, Oscar DeVries, Garnet DeVries, Rick
DeVries, Rob Zersch and Piebe Sikma.
Donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre or Winchester District
Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
