Lila Dorothy Fawcett
Lila Dorothy Fawcett (nee Burnie) of RR1 South
Mountain passed away Sept. 13, 2004, at the Winchester District
Memorial Hospital. She was 81.
She was the wife of the late Delbert Dawson Fawcett, whom she
married on May 3, 1941 in Shanley. She was born on Nov. 3, 1922
in Edwardsburgh Township to the late Thomas John Burnie and the
late Idena Mae Robinson.
She is survived by children Marilyn Bruce (Verne), Bud (Gloria),
Verla Levere, Debbie Lewis (Miles), Bernice Speck, Barry (Diane),
Brent (Darlene), Beverley Montgomery (Brian), and Beatrice Duncan
(Edwin) and 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of Helen Groskopf (the late Beres), Beatrice
Smith (the late Ronald), Stanley (Ella) Burnie, Ruth Hall (Arno),
Alice Conners (Reg), Lorna McGrath (Herb), and Hannie Futter (the
late Hubert).
She was predeceased by brothers Donald (Lois) Burnie and Bill
Burnie.
She was a housewife and homemaker as well as a dedicated volunteer
for the Mountain Township Agricultural Society, the Heart and
Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and CNIB and she was
Ontario Citizen of the Year in 1991. She was a member and elder
of the Hulbert Valley United Church.
The funeral was held at Hulbert Valley United Church on Sept.
16, with Rev. Yvonne Willis officiating. Interment followed at
Sprucehaven Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tom and Bill Levere, Glen Lewis, Ian Speck, Adam
Speck and Eric Duncan.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Byers Funeral Home, South
Mountain.
