Norma McMillan
Norma McMillan of Dunbar died at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sept. 2, 2004 following a brief illness. She was 79.
She was born in Winchester Township on April 14, 1925 to the late Charles Flegg and Bessie (nee Baxter). She was a lifetime resident of the Dunbar area.
She married the late Keith McMillan in Chesterville on Dec. 15, 1945. In addition to being a homemaker and farmer's wife, she owned and operated a general store in Dunbar for many years. After closing the store she worked as a receptionist at George Countryman Electric.
She is survived by children Stephen (Norma) McMillan of Chesterville and Sandra Tyo (Dale Levere) of Iroquois.
She is survived by siblings Jean Larmour of Avonmore, Lela Helmer of Winchester, Doris Wylie of Winchester, Bill (Clara) Flegg of Killaloe, Edna Anderson of British Columbia, Ray Flegg of Alberta, Merla (Jean Guy) Geneau of Morrisburg and Fern (Bill) Thompson of Blind River.
She was predeceased by sisters Minnie Henderson and Grace Hess, and brothers Lee, Bert, Sterling and Wayne Flegg.
She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Troy McMillan, Doug McMillan, Michael Levere, Kristina Levere, and great-grandchildren Stacey, Courtney, Kayla, Jessica, Brandon and Brittney. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She loved music, knitting, quilting, collecting stuffed toys, and watching the birds at her feeders. She took great pride in growing flowers. She enjoyed joking and kidding with people and she even told the odd joke. She loved children and she treated every child as if they were her own. In her younger days she loved to dance. She was a member of the Dunbar Presbyterian Church and the Dunbar Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid group from 1945 to 1996.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Sept. 5. The funeral took place at the Dunbar Presbyterian Church on Sept. 6 with Rev. Darren May and Rev. Bert de Bruijn officiating. Interment was at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Pallbearers were Troy McMillan, Doug McMillan, Leslie McMillan, Danny Shaver, Bob Brown and Hubert Tupper. Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
