Clayton Reveler Stewart
Clayton Reveler Stewart passed away peacefully on March 5, 2004
at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. He was 88.
He was the beloved husband of 61 years of Eunice (nee MacPherson)
and a loving father to David John (Catherine), grandfather of
Christopher (Leanne) and great-grandfather of Dominique.
He grew up in Dundas County near Winchester, the son of the late
Walter and Annie (nee Reveler) Stewart. He was the dear brother
of Dorothy (late Dobie) Byers, Hudson (Joanne) Stewart, Bessie
Clark, and Hughetta (late Victor) Thoms. He is also survived by
many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Mildred (late Bill) Woolley and
his brother Robert (Mary) Stewart.
He attended high school in Ormond and Morewood. He graduated from
Ottawa Normal School and began his teaching career in 1939 in
Renfrew County. He served in the war in 1943 and upon his return
continued studies, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from
Queen's University in Kingston. He taught at Eganville District
High School and Opeongo High until he retired in 1973.
He was active with the Eganville Cadet Corps 2597 and the speech
festival. Throughout his life he served in several positions with
the Melville United Church in Eganville.
After retiring from the teaching profession, he pursued his many
interests in the great outdoors. These included ice fishing, gardening,
working in the bush and his famous maple syrup production.
A memorial service was held in Melville United Church in Eganville
on March 12.
