Gary Armstrong
Gary Armstrong
passed from his Winchester home to his Heavenly Home on Jan. 31,
2005. This dear man began his life on May 1, 1938 in the Cardinal-Prescott
area.
He faced his failing health head on as he lived his life and was
fully supported by his close-knit family. Winchester was his home
for more than 40 years with his wonderful family.
He is survived by his devoted wife Freida Armstrong (nee Beckstead)
and by his God-given gifts, his children Angie (Garry) Tony, Tammy
(Mark), and Dave (Kelly). He is also survived by two more blessings,
his gorgeous granddaughter Stacey-Lynne and his precious grandson
Jordan. He is survived by a special sister Peg and his younger
brother Roger. He will be fondly remembered by his cherished nieces,
nephews, many in-laws and his extended family. He was predeceased
by his parents Andrew Armstrong and the former Margaret Riddell,
by two sisters Mary and Kay; by two brothers Clarke and Jack;
and by two angelic granddaughters Kaitlyn and Sarah Armstrong.
He was a volunteer firefighter for Winchester for many years,
was on the recreation board years earlier for a time, was a staunch
supporter of the Winchester Hawks Jr. B Hockey Club, and was on
the Hawks' executive for a term. After retiring from the LCBO
in 1999, he did volunteer work for the Winchester District Memorial
Hospital and for the Nor-Dun Seniors Support Centre until his
health no longer allowed him to. He was a member of the Golden
Years Society and helped out at euchre parties. He was a community-minded
guy, one who would go that extra mile to help someone. He will
be sorely missed by people far and wide. So loved.
The family welcomed relatives and friends at the Marsden and McLaughlin
Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Feb. 2. The funeral service was
held at the funeral home on Feb. 3. Interment followed at Maple
Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Any donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital Renewing
the Vision campaign or the Winchester United Church would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
