Norma Casselman
Norma Casselman
of Dundas Manor in Winchester passed away peacefully with her
family by her side, on April 20, 2005 at the Winchester District
Memorial Hospital. She was 86.
She was wife to the late Donald Casselman whom she married on
June 7, 1947 in Brockville. She was born on Nov. 26, 1918 to the
late John Sandfield "Sandy" Hitsman and the late Pearl
Hitsman (nee La Salle).
She was mother to Jane (Richard) Hess of RR #1 Williamsburg, and
David (Carole Mundy) of Cornwall. She was predeceased by brothers
Bill Hitsman, Bob Hitsman, Douglas Hitsman and sisters Eleanor
Helmer and Margaret Sherman. She will be fondly remembered by
grandchildren Derek Casselman, Jill Robinson, Rick Hess and great-grandchildren
Karlie Casselman, Jessica Casselman, and Douglas Robinson. She
is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was primarily a homemaker, but she did deliver mail in the
Winchester area for a number of years. She was dedicated to her
family. She spent many hours knitting for children and grandchildren
as well as for charity. She loved to read and she helped with
a program that taught adults to read prior to her stroke. She
was born and lived in Winchester until January of 1992 when she
suffered a stroke. Following her stroke, she moved to the Hartford
Retirement Home in Morrisburg where she lived until 1998 when
health problems forced her to move to Dundas Manor.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 310 in Winchester,
where she served as worthy matron in 1964-1965. She was also a
member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 108 in Winchester,
where she held several different leadership positions including
President.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on April 21. An Eastern Star Lodge service was held at the funeral
home on April 21. The funeral was held at the funeral home on
April 22 with Rev. Bob Williams officiating, followed by interment
of cremated remains at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be
appreciated by the family.
