Hilda Mae Holmes
Hilda Mae Holmes (nee Jackson) passed away peacefully at the Dundas Manor on June 30, 2005. She was 97.
Hilda was the wife of the late Ernest Holmes. She was the mother of Thelma Williams of Kanata, Stuart (Joyce) of Osgoode, Winnifred Patterson of Mountain, Mabel Summers (Laurie) of Winchester, Fred (Barbara) of Napanee, Betty Faith (William) of Perth, Larrie (Orleen) of Calgary, Dwayne (Phyllis) of Winchester, and Richard (Ellyn) of Arnprior. Hilda was grandma to 38 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Hazel Merkley of Winchester and Beatrice Price of Prescott. Hilda was the sister-in-law of Dorothy Jackson of Belleville. She was predeceased by daughter Pauline, three grandchildren, two sisters and six brothers.
Friends were received at the Winchester Funeral Home on July 3 and at the Winchester Wesleyan Church on July 4. The funeral service was held in the church hall on July 4 with Rev. Thurland Brown officiating. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Pallbearers were grandsons Brian Gallagher, Trevor Patterson, Ernest Summers, Dale Holmes, Tom Faith and Steven Holmes.
A luncheon provided by the Winchester UCW Ladies was held at the Lions Hall and was enjoyed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hilda can be made to the Dundas Manor Activity Fund, Winchester District Memorial Hospital or to Township of Osgoode Care Centre.
