Freda Leona McAuley
Freda Leona McAuley (nee Baker) died peacefully at the Winchester
District Memorial Hospital on Oct. 6, 2005. She was 67.
She was the daughter of the late Lennox and Margaret (Norton)
Baker. She was raised in Cannamore and attended Morewood Presbyterian
Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
Freda married Charles McAuley on Dec. 10, 1955 in Morrisburg with
both their families in attendance. Charles and Freda raised their
two daughters together - Debbie, who joined them on the farm,
and Cindy, who took her own direction of family and career. Freda
worked alongside her husband and took care of the business on
the farm. She cared for her family in their times of sickness
and need over the years.
In her spare time, Freda enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting,
and reading. Her delights each fall were pickling and preserving,
and later baking fruit cake, which created a sweet warm smell
in the house - much like her baked buns. Her presence will be
greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband Charles, by her daughters Debbie
McAuley and Cindy Allan and by one brother, Gordon (Edith) Baker
of Winchester. Freda is predeceased by three brothers and three
sisters.
Friends were received at the Winchester Funeral Home, on Oct.
11. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral
home on Oct. 12 with Rev. Bert de Bruijn officiating. Interment
followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers
were Gill Steen, Robert Mattice, Dwayne Cinnamon, Sven Jorgensen,
Raymond Porteous and Wesley Woods.
Donations in memory of Freda may be made to a charity of choice.
