Dick McEwen
Richard Vincent McEwen, more commonly known as "Dick" of RR2 Brinston, passed away suddenly on Jan. 20, 2005 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was 59.
He was born May 21, 1945 to the late Elbern McEwen and Mae McEwen (nee Littlejohn) who survives and lives in Maxville.
He grew up on the family farm in Maxville and attended Bloomington Public School SS#4 in Roxborough Township. After attending school, his aim in life was to be a truck driver, a job he loved and did well.
In his early years he married Betty Meldrum on July 26, 1969 and to this union was born a lovely daughter,, Tammy Dorothy Mae who survives and lives in Kemptville. They resided in Cornwall before moving to Iroquois. Over the next few years Dick worked for several trucking firms including Harland Veinotte, Casco, Harland Rayvalls, McKinnon Transport, Direct and Bob Lodge Trucking, and enjoyed immensely all places he travelled to and from. He had been across both Canada and the U.S.A. many times over the past 40 some years.
He is survived by his loving companion Darlene Riddell, daughter Tammy McEwen, step-daughter Angela Saddlemire (Dave Marchand) and he was the loving grampy of Eric and Taylor Saddlemire. Also surviving are his mom Mae McEwen of Maxville, sisters Shirley (Wilson) Perry of Ingleside, Linda McEwen of Kanata, Wendy (Terry) Bates of Maynard and Nancy (Jeff) Robillard of Kanata. He leaves to mourn his loss several nieces and nephews and his extended family. He was predeceased by his dad, Elbern McEwen, and by a brother, Robbie McEwen.
Visitation took place at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Homes in Iroquois on Jan. 22. The funeral service was held on Jan. 23.
An impressive funeral service was conducted by Rev. Janet Evans and Rev. Doug Carnegie, followed by a lovely luncheon provided by the Legion ladies auxiliary. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date in the McEwen family plot at Maxville.
At the request of his immediate family donations will be gratefully accepted for Branch 370 Legion Iroquois (building fund), the Iroquois United Church (window fund) or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
