Lorne Mellan
Lorne Mellan, of the Hartford Retirement Centre, passed away Nov. 28, 2005 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. He was 85.
Lorne was born on Oct. 4, 1920 in Matilda Township to the late Christopher Mellan and the late Edith Beggs. Lorne was predeceased by his wife Edith Rathwell, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1951 in Moosejaw, Sask. He was the father of Christine (Grant), John (Nancy), and Archie (Denise). He was the grandfather of Jennifer (Mike), Lindsay, and Christopher; and Glen and Andrew. He was the brother-in-law of Freda Mellan, Ruth Phillips, Patricia Rathwell, and Wes (Diana) Rathwell.
Lorne, previously of RR1 South Mountain, was formerly a dairy farmer and insurance agent. He was a former school board trustee, councillor, Deputy Reeve, Reeve of Matilda Township, and a former member of Masonic Order and IOOF. He was a member of Hulbert Valley United Church.
The funeral was held on Nov. 30, 2005 in the chapel of the Byers Funeral Home with Rev. Yvonne Willis officiating. Interment followed at Sprucehaven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jennifer and Mike Wilson; Lindsay and Christopher Mellan; and Glen and Andrew Mellan. Honorary pallbearers were Lyle Sullivan and Dwight Gilmer.
