Ellen Derby Reid
Ellen Derby Reid passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Kemptville Hospital on Jan. 17, 2005. She was 99.
She was born in Vancamp on March 1, 1905 to the late Fred Baker and the late Carrie Levere. She was predeceased by first husband of 20 years Andrew Derby, and devoted second husband of 54 years Ian Reid. She was the loving mother of Burnett (Ethyle) Derby of Guelph and Barbara (Gordon) Hutchinson of Vernon. She was the cherished grandmother "Nammie" of Sharon (Kevin) Smail, Sandra (Lyle) Thornton, Andrew (Vicky) Hutchinson, David (Judith) Hutchinson, Ronald (Annette) Derby, Robert (Helen) Derby, and Brian (Lisa) Derby. She will be sadly missed by 13 great-grandchildren, sister Carrie Guy, and many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. tShe was a graduate of Toronto Normal School and retired from Teaching in 1970.
The funeral service was held in the chapel of the Winchester Funeral Home on Jan. 21, with Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Burial followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Kevin Smail, Lyle Thornton, Ronald Derby, Robert Derby, Brian Derby and Aaron VanSanten.
