Gilda Florence Shay
Funeral services
were conducted by Rev. Jean Udall from the Marsden and McLaughlin
Funeral Home in Iroquois at 11 a.m. Fri., April 15 for Gilda Florence
(nee Casselman) Shay of RR1 Iroquois, who died Mon., April 11
as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident on SD&G
County Road 16 northeast of Iroquois. She was 44.
Mrs. Shay was the wife of Murray Shay, who survives, and mother
of John and Jenna, both at home.
She was born in Winchester District Memorial Hospital June 3,
1960 a daughter of the late Lyle and Doreen (Shaver) Casselman
and was married to Murray Shay at Lakeshore Drive United Church,
Morrisburg, June 27, 1981.
She and her husband farmed at RR1 Iroquois and she also worked
as a pet groomer.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by her mother,
Doreen of RR1 Iroquois; brothers Gerald (Marlene) and David (Diane)
both of RR1 Iroquois, and Doug (Mary) of Williamsburg. She is
also survived by her sister, Donna (Lyall Cutler) of Cardinal.
Mrs. Shay canvassed for the CNIB, Cancer Society and Heart and
Stroke Foundation and was a member of the Twin Power Heritage
Association, an antique tractor club. She was also a member of
Lakeshore Drive United Church in Morrisburg. She collected salt
and pepper shakers and spoons and loved animals, working on the
farm and living in the country. She was an avid traveller, cook
and gardener and was devoted to her family.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, 8 Beach
St. in Iroquois, on Thurs., April 14 and interment was at Spruce
Haven Cemetery in Brinston. Pallbearers were Randy Millar, Rick
Lascelle, Peter Pepers, Peter Vander Poel, Brian Munro and Doug
Shay.
Donations can be made to Winchester District Memorial Hospital
and will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
