Graham R. Smith
A lifetime resident of Chesterville,
Graham Smith died at home on Nov. 24, 2005, surrounded by his
family. He was 89.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Gladys Wingard
of Williamsburg. Together, they operated Legacy Lodge, a heritage
dairy farm, until their retirement in 1980.
Smith was the proud father of Barbara, Robert, and Brenda. He
was the cherished grandfather of Geoffrey, Laura (Peter) Maher,
and Jason (Cheri-Lee) Smith. He was also rewarded with an adorable
great-granddaughter, Allison Maher.
Smith is survived by his sister, Ruth Widdows of Brockville, and
his brother, Dr. Douglas (Rita) Smith of Peterborough, as well
as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm F. and Charlotte (Rae),
and his youngest sister, Amorette in 1979 in Montreal.
Smith was a former member of the Egan Lake hunt camp and was nicknamed
"Dead-eye Dick." He always enjoyed a game of cards with
friends and was an avid reader who could still recite many selections
of poetry learned in school.
In keeping with Smith's wishes, there was no visitation. Inurnment
took place at the family plot at Maple Ridge Cemetery on Sat.,
Dec. 3.
Donations made to the SD&G Public Library Chesterville branch,
the Winchester District Memorial Hospital, or a charity or organization
of choice will be greatly apprecieated.
