George Baker

George Baker of Winchester passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Jan. 16, 2006 following a 6 month battle with cancer. He was 60.
George was born on Oct. 31, 1945 in Winchester to the late Garfield Baker and the late Nancy Baker (nee Curry). He was the husband of Anne Baker (nee Loney) whom he married in Winchester United Church on Aug. 2, 1974. He was the father of David and Douglas, both at home. He was the brother of Beverley Baker (Hank Molenaar) of Winchester, and Bonny (Albert) Black of Osnabruck Centre. He was the uncle of Shawn Cumming of Cornwall.
George was a lifetime resident of Winchester. He worked for the past 25 years as a transport driver for Kriska Transport. George was an avid hunter - 24-7, 365 days a year there was a season for some type of wild game. If not, there was a fishing hole, horse pull, or auction sale to attend. He passed his love of the outdoors on to his boys. A man of few words, George could say a lot without saying anything at all. Anyone who ever received the Baker stare can attest to that. George was a good cook and he could be found in the cook shack of the Oddfellows Lodge or the kitchen of the Five Star Camp. He may not have told anyone that he loved them, but he meant it every day. George was loved and will be missed by all.

Visitation was held at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Jan. 19. An Oddfellows Service was held on Jan. 19 at 8:30 pm. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Jan. 20 with Rev. Thurland Brown officiating. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
The pallbearers were Mac Holmes, Randy Holmes, Gary Hoy, Allen Whitteker, Edwin Baker, and Glen Irven. Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Pemberton, Graham Pemberton, Joe Banville, and Lyall Holmes.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital or to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
