Martin Dee Ballantyne
Martin Ballantyne passed away after a lengthy illness at Kingston
General Hospital on Fri., Nov. 17, 2006. He was 71.
He was the son of the late Jack and Norma Jean (Martin) Ballantyne,
and the step-son of the late Haldane Durant. He was the beloved
husband of Doonie (nee Dillabough) of Belleville. He was the loving
father of Brent (Cara) of Oakville, and Craig of Burlington.
He is survived by siblings Pat (Mel) Abel of Belleville, Steven
(Sharon) Durant of Vernon, B.C., Carolyn (Mark) Loucks of Tillbury,
and Kay Hill of Merrickville. He was predeceased by brother John
Durant. He is also remembered by Doonie's sister Berneyce Carlyle
of Chesterville, and by all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, and
extended family.
During his early childhood, Martin lived in Morewood and attended
local schools. Shortly after graduating from Chesterville High
School, he began working for Bell Canada and remained with the
company for over 32 years.
Following retirement, Martin and Doonie spent each winter in Florida.
He looked forward to the sun, the beach, and golf. Martin was
an avid golfer, who loved the game and the companionship of his
fellow golfers, and will be sadly missed by his many golfing friends.
Martin's friendliness, humour, and pleasant personality will be
remembered by all who knew him.
A heart-warming eulogy was given by Brent Ballantyne in memory
of his Dad, and the service was closed with the committal and
prayer by Rietta Hillis of Morewood.
Inurnment was held on Mon., Nov. 27 at Maple Ridge Cemetery in
Chesterville.
