Dundas County's oldest resident passes at age 104
Mrs. Agnes Casselman passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Tue., July 11, 2006. She was 104 years, 8 months, and 1 day.
She was born Dec. 10, 1901 in Mariatown to the late John F. Casselman and his wife, the late Martha Louisa Whitteker. She was predeceased by her only sister Miss Nina Casselman of Williamsburg in 1999, and her only brother Ivan Casselman of Strader Hill in 2004. She leaves her two children Evelyn (Douglas) Robinson of Elma, and Mahlon (Lynne Cook) of Morrisburg and three grandchildren Ruth (Brian) Turner of Barrie, Ann (Stanley) Moore of Cardinal, and Donald Robinson of Elma. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was married in 1925 to Orlando Cook who passed away nine years later on May 6, 1934, leaving her with a farm at Strader Hill, and two children, Mahlon age seven and Evelyn age two. She later married Roy Sidney Casselman on March 22, 1943 at Elma, and he passed away in 1950.
Aggie lived on the farm at Strader Hill with her son Mahlon until 1975 when they sold the farm and moved to Dixon's Corners. In 1985 Mahlon married Lynne O'Brien and moved to Morrisburg. In 1986 Aggie moved to the Senior Citizens Apartments in Iroquois. She moved to the Hartford Retirement Home on March 10,1999 and was there until she entered the hospital June 9, 2006. Last Christmas she went to her granddaughters, Ann and Stan Moore of Cardinal and spent the day with her family.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on July 12 and July 13 from noon until time of service at 1 pm with Rev. Isabel Black officiating. Interment followed at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston.
The pallbearers were Bill Cook, Larry Beckstead, Donnie Wells, Thomas Lewis, Jerry Byvelds, and Lyle Casselman. Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Beckstead, Lorne Johnston, and Gary Murphy.
