Estella MacGregor
After a courageous battle with cancer, Estella
MacGregor died peacefully, with Malcolm, her husband of 55 years,
at her side at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sat.,
July 15, 2006. She was 74.
Born Sept. 21, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Emerson and
Gladys (Baker) Faulkner. She is dearly loved and sadly missed
by Malcolm and her children Janet LaPierre (Alan), Rhod (Sue),
Tom (Janet), Joan Davis (Tim McCadden), and Glenda Helmer (George).
She was a beloved sister to Reta Raymond (the late Glen), Doreen
Marcellus (Russell), Shirley Carruthers (the late Hector), and
Faye Coons (Elwood), and sisters-in-law Shirley O'Dell (the late
Doug), Marlene Faulkner (the late Jack), and Ruby Faulkner (the
late Don). She was predeceased by her sister Helene Crump as well
as brothers Don and Jack. She was much loved by her grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Estella was a member of the Morewood Presbyterian Church, and
a member of its Ladies Aid. She lived and worked on the family
dairy farm east of Morewood, Glen Haven Farms, for many years
as the family was growing up, and no job was too tough for her
to tackle.
When her sons took over the farm in 1978, she had more leisure
time to pursue her passion for curling, golf, and the occasional
game of bridge. When Malcolm took on an assignment in Bangladesh,
she accompanied him and played gracious hostess on many occasions
to officials from government agencies and NGOs. They were fortunate
to have the opportunity to travel to a number of exotic locations
during their life together, ranging from Australia to China, India,
Thailand, Burma, and the Maldives, among others. Wherever she
went, she took a keen interest in local customs and was a superb
travelling companion. May her last voyage be her best!
Visitation was held at the Chesterville Funeral Home on July 18.
The funeral service and interment were held at Morewood Presbyterian
Church on July 19 at 11 am with Rev. Bert de Bruijn officiating.
Four of her grandsons acted as pallbearers.
Donations in Estella's memory may be made to the Winchester District
Memorial Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
