Jean McMillan Broom

Jean McMillan Broom of Colonial Hill Retirement Center in Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Sat. May 27, 2006 at the Johnson City Medical Centre following a brief illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Broom was born in Finch but lived most of her life in Massena, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Muriel and Smith McMillan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Broom, and her sister Mae Marcellus.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Spence and son-in-law Dr. George Spence of Jonesborough, Tenn.; her son Dr. Timothy Sharlow and daughter-in-law Gretchen Ehle Sharlow of Elmira, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Kristen Sharlow Meyer of Elmira, N.Y., Paul Sharlow of Jamesville, N.Y., Dr. Robert Spence of Amherst, Ma., Lindsay Spence of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces Lana Larsen of Finch, and Carol Hull of Aylmer; and eight great-grandchildren.
During her years as a homemaker in Massena, she was an active volunteer in the Seaway Garden Club, the Girl Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross.
She was very grateful to the many friends and staff at the Colonial Hill Retirement Center who were instrumental in her happiness the past four years.
A memorial service will be held in Finch at a later date.
