Mae Robinson

Mae Robinson of Chesterville passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on March 25, 2006. She was 85.
She was born on June 28, 1920 in Winchester Township to the late Calvin Munro and Minnie Merkley. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Robinson, whom she married on Sept. 20, 1939, in Morrisburg. She is survived by children Lila (Hubert) Tupper of Dunbar, Grace (Donnie) Gillard of Chesterville, Jean (Bill) Gillard of Morrisburg, Glen (Linda) Robinson of RR#2 Chesterville, and Ella Robinson (Bill Bond) of Chesterville. She is also survived by brothers and sisters, Lyle (Shirley) Munro, Myles (Marjorie) Munro, and Alice (Ren) Elliott, all of RR#2 Chesterville. She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Judy Adams, Doug Gillard, Marty Gillard, Kelly Stewart, Ronnie Robinson, Wayne Robinson, Dennis Gillard, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by granddaughters Tracey Robinson and Marilyn Whitford, sister Eva Sargent, and brother Harold Munro.
Mae was a member of Trinity United Church in Chesterville. She was a lifetime resident of the area and grew up in Nation Valley. For many years she was a farmer's wife, and she also worked as a custodian at North Dundas District High School until she retired in 1984. She loved to garden, was an excellent cook, and she made the best pickles in Chesterville. Above all, Mae was a fun person to be with. She regaled all her family and friends with tales of kippies and other shenanigans that she had been involved in. In later years, she suffered through knee, hip, and shoulder replacement surgeries. Her family called her the bionic woman and she never complained. When asked how she felt, her response was always "not too bad." Before her hip surgery, she regularly attended bingos and euchre parties. In later years, she discovered the joys of Rideau Carleton Slots which she enjoyed playing, and she won quite a few jackpots. She loved to entertain her relatives and friends, and everyone who met her came to love her. She became Grandma Mae to all of the kids who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her numerous relatives and friends.
In keeping with Mae's wishes there was no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to gather at Grantley Cemetery for a graveside service on April 1 at 2 pm.
Donations made to Winchester District Memorial Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Dundas County Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
