Cecil James Waddell
Cecil James Waddell passed away suddenly and
very peacefully at the Township of Osgoode Care Centre on Thurs.,
Dec. 28, 2006. He was 94. He was the fifth of six children born
to Ernest and Ethel (Peterkin) Waddell.
Born Oct. 21, 1912 in a farming community in Osgoode Township,
Cecil and his beloved wife Nelda (Carkner) built a top-notch purebred
Holstein herd over the years that won prizes at the local fairs
and earned them recognition for their milk production.
He was a founding member of the Cooperative Medical Insurance
and served for many years as a board member. He was one of the
first 4-H members in the county. He served on the Milk Marketing
Board for many years. He also helped found the Crop and Soil Improvement
Board.
He was a faithful and proud member of the Osgoode Baptist and
United Church congregation and a member of the Osgoode Male Choir
for some years. After his herd was dispersed in 1992, and with
time on his hands, he happily grew, harvested, and prepared vegetables
from his garden for the annual Church Harvest supper, devoted
time and energy to his family, and indulged his passion for watching
hockey games as well as curling.
He moved to Riverside Heights in 1998 and lived with his daughter,
Neila Fowler and her family. He became a treasured and much loved
resident of the Township of Osgoode Care Centre in early 2005.
He leaves behind daughters Judy (Garry) Charette of Iroquois,
Linda (Keith) Robinson of Riverside Heights, Ruth Doyle of Surrey,
British Columbia, Karen (Gary) Marshall of Carp, Neila (Jeff)
Fowler, and Sherry Waddell (Ron Grisdale) of Cambridge, as well
as one son Brian (Brenda) Waddell of Chesterville. He will be
sadly missed by his adoring grandchildren Marilyn Collins, Scott
Robinson, Heather Prater, Valerie Besignano, Jamie Robinson, Mike
Doyle, Jennifer Marshall, Curtis Fowler, Cory Fowler, Cole Fowler,
five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces
and nephews who fondly remember "helping" their uncle
on his farm.
Friends and relatives called at the Daley Family Funeral Home
on Jan. 1, 2007. The funeral service was held in the chapel of
the funeral home on Jan. 2 with Rev. Kathy Petrie officiating,
followed by interment at Springhill Cemetery in Metcalfe. The
Osgoode Baptist and United Church hosted a reception following
the service.
His family gratefully acknowledged donations to the Township of
Osgoode Care Centre or the Osgoode Baptist and United Church in
memory of Cecil.
