Lola Young

Lola Young of RR1 Williamsburg passed away on Feb. 11, 2006 at Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. She was 91.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1914 in Mountain Township to the late George Hummel and Annie Hummel (nee Froats). She was the wife of the late Delbert Young whom she married on Jan. 17, 1933 in Elma. She was the mother of Joyce Scott (Ken Barber) of Winchester, Jean (John) Kennedy of Winchester, and Basil Young (Brenda Brown) of RR1 Brinston. She was the sister of Cassie Dillabough of RR2 Chesterville. She was predeceased by her sons Gary, Wayne, and Roger; by brothers Myles, Bert, Earl, and Lee Hummel; and by a sister Lera Young. Lola will be fondly remembered by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and by nieces and nephews.
She was a lifetime resident of the area. She was primarily a homemaker, but she did work as a cook at various restaurants including Paquin Park, Exxon, Stage West, and Rose Rice's restaurant in Riverside Heights. She was an excellent cook and baker. In her earlier years she baked to help supplement the family income and in one instance she made 519 pies, as well as tarts, pie shells, and donuts in 21 days. She also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Feb. 13. The funeral service was held on Feb. 14 at the funeral home with Rev. Janet Evans officiating. Interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
The pallbearers were Dwayne Hummel, Ray Dillabough, John Kennedy, Darryl Young, Brian Young, and Brian Steele. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Young, Bert Hummel, and Larry Scott.
