Alan MacNeill Abel
Alan MacNeill Abel passed away Aug. 25, 2007
after a brief illness in Brockville General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1950, the only son of the late Dr. Robert
B. Abel and Louise (nee MacNeill) of Middleton, NS. He is survived
by his sister Margaret (Tim Jansen) of Middleton, and Kathryn
(Koop Mulder) of Winchester. He also leaves behind his nieces
Lesley McClure of Middleton; Louise, Elizabeth, and Sidney of
Winchester; and a grand-nephew Drew Hudson of Middleton. He will
be missed by his constant companion, his dog Jack.
During his youth, he studied the cello at Mont Orford, Que., and
in Paris, France. He was a graduate in interior design from Massey
Junior College in Atlanta, Georgia. He taught English as a second
language in Brockville, and was a French instructor at St. Lawrence
College in Brockville.
He greatly enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his love
of gourmet cooking. He served on the board of the Athens Public
Library, volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program, and was
involved with the local theatre groups in Athens. He was a member
of the Athens Christian Reform Church.
At Alan's final request, there will be no funeral or memorial
service. Cremation has taken place.
His family mourns the loss of a brother and uncle whose life ended
far too soon.
