Gerald Leslie Fetterly
July 20, 1916 - July 12, 2007
Gerry Fetterly passed away peacefully at Nanaimo
General Hospital on Thurs., July 12, 2007, just shy of his 91st
birthday.
He was born in Winchester on July 20, 1916 to the late Carl and
Viola Fetterly (nee Hess). He was the eldest brother of Vivian
Strader of Winchester, Verna Wilch of Port Moody, B.C., and Lorne
of St. Catharines, and was predeceased by brother Glendon Fetterly
of Mountain. He was predeceased by his first wife Edna in 1995,
and his second wife Eileen in 2006. He is also survived by 15
nieces and nephews, and 19 great-nieces and nephews.
During his lifetime, he had a variety of jobs that brought him
across Canada. He worked in the mines of northern Quebec, and
later in Sudbury. He mined in northern B.C., owned a taxi company
in Prince Rupert, and worked on fishing boats. In the late 1940s,
he arrived in Nanaimo and became a carpenter and house builder.
Over the years he touched the lives of many people who became
lifelong friends. They will miss him a great deal.
He was a respected member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Crescent
Chapter, and will be missed among this circle of friends.
A memorial service was held to celebrate Gerry's life at the Masonic
Hall in Nanaimo, B.C. on Fri., July 20.
