Margaret Anne Flowers
Margaret Anne Flowers (nee Taylor) of Woodstock
passed away at the age of 93.
She was the daughter of the late Hall Taylor and Ethna Thornton
of Sardis, British Columbia.
She left her beloved childhood home on Galiano Island to travel
across Canada to be educated in Caledonia, Ont. During the Great
Depression, she taught Grades 1 to 9 in one-room schools, marrying
the late James S. Flowers (1978).
Firmly committed to the importance of volunteer efforts within
charitable organizations, she was the past president of the YWCA
Board, a chairwoman of the Woodstock branch of the Save the Children
Fund, a former president of the General United Church Women, and
a past secretary of the IODE of which she was a member for 43
years. She maintained an active 30-year plus membership in the
volunteer committee of the Woodstock Art Gallery. The Saturday
Afternoon Reading Club was a special joy. She was a member of
the Central United Church for over 60 years. Her contributions
were in the parlour, the kitchen, and the pew. Her summation:
All's right with my soul. With her dear friend, Verona Webster,
the world-travelling companions pursued their passion for bridge
in various duplicate marathon and social bridge groups.
Her family was always her primary focus, the welfare of her children
her foremost concern. Her warmth and listening skills will be
deeply missed by her surviving four children and their families:
Jim Flowers (wife Ruthann) of Woodstock, David (wife Valerie)
of Winchester, Bruce, and daughter Shelagh (husband Bill) Morrison
of London, ON. She is survived by eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Friends called at the Longworth Funeral Home in Woodstock on Thurs.,
Oct. 18, 2007 in the afternoon until the time of the funeral service
in the chapel with Rev. Stephen Hershey officiating. Interment
was at Hillview Cemetery.
Contributions to Central United Church or a charity of your choice
would be appreciated.
