Edna Golden
Edna Golden (Presley, nee Sharkey), a long
time resident of the Metcalfe and Vernon area, passed away peacefully
at the West End Villa Nursing Home on Jan. 18, 2007. She was 85.
She was born in Cumberland to John and Eva Sharkey on March 21,
1921. After finishing her schooling, she went to work for the
federal government in Ottawa. In 1952, she married Howard Presley
from Clarence, Ont. They bought a dairy farm east of Vernon in
1954, and made it their home for the next 25 years. In 1979 they
purchased a house in Vernon and retired to a quieter lifestyle.
Howard passed away in 1985, and for the next several years. Edna
enjoyed spending her time with friends and family in the village.
She married Fred Golden in 1999 and moved to the Stanley Apartments
in Metcalfe, where they continued to enjoy going to the Old Time
Fiddlers dances and other functions. In July 2006 they move to
the West End Villa.
She is survived by her husband Fred Golden, and her children Keith
(Deb Merkley), Grace (Lester Robinson), Rosemary (Don Dujay),
and Janice (Bob Frederick). She is also survived by her grandchildren
Shannon Reoch (Steve Pietschmann), Adam and Jason Presley, and
by great-grandchildren Brayden and Cameron Pietschmann. She will
be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased
by her son Bruce Presley, her sister Hilda (Stanley Edwards),
and by her brothers Wilfred (Gladys), and Keith Sharkey.
Friends called at the Daley Family Funeral Home on Jan. 22, and
23 (until the time of the service in the chapel of the funeral
home). A spring interment will take place at Springhill Cemetery
in Metcalfe.
Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by
the family.
