Shirley Jean Munro
Shirley Jean Munro, a lifetime resident of
the Chesterville area, passed away peacefully at home, with her
family by her side, on Fri., June 15, 2007, following a brief
battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 71.
She was born in Chesterville on March 19, 1936 to her parents
Calvin and Cassie Dillabough (nee Hummel). She was raised near
Dunbar along with her brother Ray. She attended the local public
school, and the Chesterville high school.
On Oct. 1, 1955 at Shirley's family home, she married Lyle Munro.
Together they raised four children Kathy, Ron, Carl, and Lyndon
on the Munro family farm in Nation Valley.
She was an active lady who was very devoted to her family, her
community, and her church. She enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing
cards, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing, and camping. She
was a talented, self-taught musician on the organ, guitar, and
the accordion. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Church
in Chesterville where she was a member of the UCW, and the church
choir. Shirley was known for her great cooking and baking. On
many memorable occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and
weddings, Shirley baked and decorated the cakes, including the
wedding cakes for each of the marriages of their four children.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother
who will be sadly missed by all of those who had the privilege
of sharing their lives with her.
She was the loving wife to Lyle, her husband for over 51 years.
She is survived by her mother Cassie Dillabough, her children
Kathy (Orlan) Crump of RR# 3 Chesterville, Ron (Janet) of Morrisburg,
Carl (Carolyn) of RR# 2 Chesterville, and Lyndon (Judy) of RR#
1 Chesterville, and her brother Ray (Verna) Dillabough of RR#
2 Chesterville. She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren
Jeremy, Tammy, Stacey, Kandi, Andrea, Erin, Pam, Brad, Jodi, and
Shawn, and one great-granddaughter Madison. She was predeceased
by her father Calvin Dillabough. She is also survived by many
nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on June 18. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on
June 19 with Rev. Wendy Wright-McKenzie officiating, assisted
by Rev. Mary Lou Shortill. Interment followed at Maple Ridge
Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Glen Robinson,
Wayne Dillabough, Gary Elliott, Brian Munro, Alvah Richards, and
John Kennedy.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital or Dundas County
Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
