Ronald Spong
Ronald Edwin Spong, a lifelong resident of
Mountain, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital General
Campus, on Jan. 3, 2007. He was 81.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1925 in Mountain to Walter and Evelyn
(nee Brown) Spong. He is survived by his loving wife Pearl (nee
Berry) whom he married on April 20, 1945 at the Hallville United
Church. He is also survived by son Bruce and daughter-in-law Suzanne
(nee Regan) of Mountain, sister Janice MacDonald, niece Nancy
Spong (Tapping), and nephew Paul Spong. He is predeceased by his
parents, brothers Lorne and James Spong, and nephew Randy MacDonald.
Lastly, Ronnie will be remembered by Dorothy, Gloria, and Janet
from the Children's Aid Society.
He attended the Hallville Continuation School. He worked as a
farmer, mechanic, and was a general handyman at Rideau Hill Camp.
Among his many interests, he enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and
going for walks.
Visitation was held at Grant Brown Funeral Home Rolston Chapel
in Kemptville on Jan. 5. The funeral followed in the chapel of
the funeral home with Rev. Blair Paterson officiating. Noreen
Hall was the organist, and an inspiring eulogy was provided by
daughter-in-law Sue. The family enjoyed fellowship at the Hallville
United Church with food prepared by the UCW. A spring interment
will be held at South Gower Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully
acknowledged.
