Georgina Styles

A resident of The Hartford Retirement Centre in Morrisburg for the past 13 months, Georgina Styles passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sun., Oct. 7, 2007. She was 84.
She was born on a farm in Osgoode Township on Nov. 19, 1922 to her parents H. Arnold Meyer and Ellen Belle Meyer (nee Watson). She grew up on the family farm along with her five sisters and three brothers, but she was the only one of her family who kept farming. On Nov. 6, 1943 she married Gerald Styles at St. James Anglican Church in Morrisburg and together they raised two daughters, Linda and Mary. They owned their first farm on Church Road and later moved to a beautiful farm on the Nation River.
After Georgina and Gerald moved to Williamsburg, they maintained a huge kitchen garden. Georgina loved canning, pickling, preserving, baking, and cooking.
She also helped out in the community. She was a member of the Red Cross Quilters for many years.
It was hard for Georgina to cope after Gerald died last year, but she kept her spirits up by going to church services and exercise classes at The Hartford.
Georgina was a small woman, barely over five feet tall and slight in build, but when she smiled at you with her huge smile, and took hold of you with her strong hands, you knew instantly that she had a huge and caring heart.
She is survived by her daughters Linda (Tom) Nixon of St. Albert, Alta. and Mary (Garry) Whittaker of R.R. 3, Williamsburg; her siblings Sonia (Gerald) Smith of Prescott, Isabel (Duane) Locke of Prescott, Barbara Vincun of Ingleside, and Hunter (Margaret) Meyer of Kingston; her grandchildren Tricia, Paul, Tammy, Stacey, Shelley, Tracy; and her great-grandchildren Kole, Ainsley, Cambrie, Easton, Ryan, Samuel, Michael, Brooke, and Brandon. She was predeceased by sisters Gladys Walker and Ellen McIntosh and brothers Duncan and Wallace Meyer. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Tues., Oct. 9. A funeral service was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Riverside Heights on Oct. 10 at 2 pm with Rev. Stephen Silverthorne officiating. Interment followed at St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery in Long Sault.
The pallbearers were Vince Cousineau, Dan McIntosh, Ray Lee, John Walker, Hubert Barkley, and David Lapier.
