John Gordon Woolford
John Gordon Woolford died peacefully on Tues.,
July 10, 2007 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. He was
63.
He was the beloved husband of Kathryn (Thompson). He was the loving
step-dad to Wes, Scott, and Kent (Shannon). He was grandpa to
Heidi, Ellie, Justin, and Katelyn. He was predeceased by his parents
Maurice and Marion (Gladman). He was the cherished brother to
Valerie and the late Norman. He was the nephew of Irene (Broad)
and uncle to Shannon and Michael.
He was an avid fan of car racing. He was a member of the Ottawa
Motorsport Club, winning "first overall" in 1977 at
Sanaire, Que. in his "orange pumpkin" Datsun. Immediately
after graduating from Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology,
John pursued a career of 33 years with the Department of Transportation,
retiring as head of Public Complaints, Analysis, and Investigation
for Road Safety. His knowledge of motor vehicles and their faults
was encyclopedic. He was considered a mentor to his staff. He
was an arbitrator of disputes, recognized for his fairness, kindness,
and honesty. He was much respected within the automotive industry
of Canada, the United States, and Japan.
The funeral service was held in the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair
and McGarry in Ottawa on Sat., July 14 with Venerable Archdeacon
Christopher Dunn officiating.
