Hubert Casselman

Hubert Casselman, a lifetime resident of the area, passed away suddenly at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Tues., July 1, 2008. He was 90.
Hubert was born of Feb. 20, 1918 in Williamsburg Township to the late Nathan and Eva Casselman (nee McMillan). He was raised on the family farm along with his brother Ray, and sisters Ella and Helen.
He married Alice Whitteker on Sept. 3, 1941 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Manse in Williamsburg, and together they had six children: Irene, Earl, Judy, Linda, Barbara, and Brenda. They lived on a farm in Dunbar, which Hubert operated until he sold it in 1973. After he sold the farm, he took a job with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission where he worked until his retirement in 1983 at the age of 65.
He was always an active member of the community. He served as a member of Williamsburg council for several years, he served on the board of Maple Ridge Cemetery, and he delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. In addition, he was an active volunteer with the Chesterville Seniors, and he faithfully helped organize every seniors dinner right up until the time of his death.
He is survived by his children Irene Casselman (Mike Else) of Perth, Earl (Claudette) of RR4 Winchester, Judy (Wayne) Rowe of Carp, Linda (Michel) Rodier of Orleans, Barbara Casselman (Joe Pasqua) of Kanata, and Brenda Casselman of Blossom Park, and his brother Ray (Helen) Casselman of Williamsburg. He will be fondly remembered by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, and his sisters Helen Froats and Ella Merkley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on July 3. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on July 4 with Rev. Jo Barkley-Probst officiating, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were grandchildren Rodney Casselman, Rhonda Casselman, Rachel Casselman, Micheal Casselman, Matthew Rodier, Amanda Rodier, and Simon Else.
