John Donald Gannon
John Donald "Jack" Gannon passed
away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on April 26, 2008,
14 days before his 88th birthday.
He was born in Mountain Township to the late Patrick Gannon and
Elizabeth (McMahon). He was predeceased by his loving wife Gwen
(nee Porter), brothers Francis, and Patrick, sister Katherine
Patterson, and sister-in-law Ruby Huff. He is survived by his
son John (Sue) of Coleville, Sask., granddaughter Shanna (Kelly
Nixon) of Lashburn, Sask., sisters-in-law Reta Gannon, Alta Carr
(the late Frank), and Louise Burnside (Bob), brother-in-law Gordon
Porter (Edna), and many nieces and nephews.
He was the longtime companion of Isabel McDiarmid. He will be
remembered by his extended family, Wendy, Sheryl, Lloyd, Myra
and their families.
Jack cared the family farm near Inkerman for many years. As well
as farming, he was "Jack" of all trades, working at
many different jobs. He was loved by many people and a friend
to all, but illness during the last few months had forced him
to give up many things that he liked to do. Jack and Isabel travelled
a lot and spent many winter months in Florida and had a lot of
friends there. He enjoyed music and singing, loved dancing, and
could tell you many stories about the "good old days".
Even up until his death he maintained a great sense of humour.
He will be greatly missed.
Friends paid their respects at Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain,
where the service was held in the chapel on April 30. Inurnment
was held on May 3 at St. Daniel's Catholic Cemetery in South Mountain.
The pallbearers were Ronald and Donald Gannon, John Patterson,
all his nephews, granddaughter Shanna, Jeff Crerar, and Lloyd
McDiarmid. The honourary pallbearers were grandchildren Matthew
and Paul Crerar, Lindsey and Cory Brown, and John and Andrew Wolosgyn.
The organist was Doreen Acres and the soloist was Lindsey Brown.
A reception was held in the funeral home with the Osgoode Baptist
Church ladies providing the lunch.
