Charles "Irwin" Holmes
Charles "Irwin" Holmes passed away
peacefully on Oct. 21, 2008, to be together always with his best
friend and dear wife Amy, who predeceased him on Sept. 27, 2008.
He was 91.
He was a devoted husband for 67 years. He was a wonderful father
to Mary Lou Greenaway, Clara (George) Edwardson, Brenda (David)
Simpson, and Kenton (Laurie Ann) Holmes. He was a loving grandfather,
and will be fondly remembered by Elizabeth (Ryan), Rob (Julie),
Kate, Kirk (Vani), Natalie, Leslie (John), Craig (Gunta), Amy
(Carl), Jennie, Kaila, Ryan, Sheldon, and Meaghan. He will be
missed by his 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother
Robert (Helen), sisters-in-law Mary Holmes, Von Holmes and Linda
Adams, and by brother-in-law Earle (Inez) Adams. He was predeceased
by his sisters Della, Mina, Dora, and Louisa, and brothers Tom,
Oliver, Harry, Leslie, Nathaniel, Edwin, and Eldred.
Irwin was a cattle dealer, farmer, and owner of Holmes Livestock
Exchange. He was a dedicated member of Winchester Springs United
Church. He will be remembered by many nephews, nieces, and friends
for his passion for fishing, hunting, and curling.
Visitation will be held at Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain
today, Wed., Oct. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service
will be held at Winchester Springs United Church on Thurs., Oct.
30 at 1 pm, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
