Leslie Stewart MacDonald
After a life filled with love, laughter, friends,
family, and music, Les MacDonald passed away peacefully at Lakeridge
Health in Oshawa on Sun., Oct. 19, 2008.
His family and friends remember a gentle man who was always ready
for a new challenge to conquer or adventure to savour. He was
a great leader who cared deeply for others.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1934 to the late Walter and Laura MacDonald,
and was raised in Winchester. He was the dearly beloved husband
of Glenyce, and loving and treasured father of Walter, and Wendy
(Dwayne). He was the brother of Eileen (Lorne), and Phyllis, the
uncle of many nieces and nephews, and the cherished friend to
many.
Les was an entrepreneur who worked much of his career as an automobile
dealer, running Chrysler and General Motors dealerships in Winchester,
and Ford dealerships in Oshawa, Bowmanville, Montreal, and Toronto.
He also ran a car leasing business in Oshawa, and a van conversion
business in Cobourg. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Oshawa,
the Nomad Investment Club, and the Canadian Antique Phonograph
Society. He served on the Oshawa Harbour Commission, and the Durham
Region Police Commission. He was previously a member of COPA (Canadian
Owners and Pilots Association), the Oshawa Flying Club, Oshawa
Toastmasters, and was a member of the Ford Dealer Council for
many years.
The visitation will be held at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124
King St. E, in Oshawa on Wed., Oct. 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel of the funeral
home on Thurs., Oct. 23 at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception at
the Oshawa Golf Club. Interment of cremated remains will be at
Ormond Cemetery at a later date. The family look forward to sharing
beautiful memories with you.
