Carl Allen Montgomery

The family of Carl Montgomery would like to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy, visits, donations of food, cards, and memoriams in his honour. Special thanks to Marjorie Lapier and Marjorie Veltkemp for their help. These acts of kindness will always be remembered.

Carl Allen Montgomery, a resident of Iroquois, passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Tues., Oct. 16, 2008 after a long and brave struggle. He was 79.
He was born on July 8, 1929 in Mountain Township, near Heckston, the eldest son of Jeremiah and Ella (nee Simzer) Montgomery. He married Margaret Marie Serviss on Sept. 8, 1951 at the Iroquois United Church manse. They lived and farmed with his parents for a short time in Hulbert. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and neighbours, and had a great passion for his collie dogs, selling them throughout Canada and the United States.
In the1950s, he moved his family to Brinston and started employment with Ports Canada Grain Elevators, and in 1973 he moved to Prescott. After 34 years of employment (or service) with the Elevators, Carl retired as General Foreman due to health reasons.
His goal in life was to provide for his wife and family. He is survived by his wife Marie, and children Darlene (Brent), Brian (Thelma), and Diane (Barry). He is also survived by his grandchildren Chad, Liane (Frank), and Leslie (Kelly); his sister Beverley Fader, and brother Dale Montgomery; in-laws, Betty Serviss, Arnold and Doris Serviss, Floyd and Pauline Serviss, Jean and Roger Tupper, Basil Serviss, and Carl and Judy Serviss; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two infant sisters.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Iroquois on Sun., Oct. 19. The funeral service was held on Mon., Oct. 20 with the Rev. Blair Patterson officiating, followed by interment at Sprucehaven Cemetery. The pallbearers were Chad Smail, Brent Fawcett, Barry Fawcett, Kelly Lascelle, John F. Montgomery, and Charles A. Montgomery. The honourary pallbearers were Eldon Bailey, Brent Lapier, John Horan, and Casey Veltkemp.
