Hubert Ouderkirk

Hubert Ouderkirk, a lifetime resident of the Winchester area, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Mon., Nov. 24, 2008 following a brief illness. He was 85.
He was born in Winchester Township on May 27, 1923 to Johnson and Lula Ouderkirk (nee Bogart). He eventually took over the farm which had been in the family for four generations and operated it until selling it to the Vanden Bosch family. He kept a small piece of the original farm land and he and Elva purchased a mobile home which they lived in until one year ago when they sold the trailer to Cecile Hogan and moved to an apartment in Winchester.
After selling the farm he worked for Cornwall Gravel and then Cruickshank Construction in Morrisburg before retiring in 1988. He was a hard worker and always liked to keep busy.
He loved playing bingo, euchre, and travelling to the casino. He was really good at playing pool, and was an avid gardener. He took great pride in his trailer, which he kept in immaculate condition.
Hubert is survived by his companion Elva Collingridge (nee Heagle), his step-children Richard Collingridge of Cornwall, Brenda Lefave (Robert Brownlee) of Cornwall, and Gordon Collingridge of Winchester, and his sisters-in-law Margaret Ouderkirk of Toronto, and Sybil Ouderkirk of Chesterville. He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Mary (Jeff MacIntosh), Bradley, Christine and Stephanie Lefave; Steven and James Collingridge; and great-grandchildren Selena, Jaryd, Madison, Haley, Mark, Brooke. and Macy. He was predeceased by sisters Evelyn Stewart, Emma Rae, Margaret Ouderkirk, Rita Ouderkirk, and brothers Walter, Sheldon, and Harold Ouderkirk. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
There was no visitation. A graveside service was held at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville on Fri., Nov. 28 with Rev. Wendy Wright-MacKenzie officiating.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
