Annie May Summers
May 27, 1917 to Feb. 25, 2008
Annie May Summers passed away on Feb. 25, 2008,
surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel and the late Jenny Fanning
of Carleton Place. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Summers.
She was survived by her children Karen (Richard) Traczyk of Russell,
and Steven (Polly) Summers of Smiths Falls. She was the much loved
grandmother of John (Patti) Pelkey, of Tamworth, Ont., and Kenneth
(Jennifer) Pelkey of Silver Springs, Md. She was the dearest great-grandmother
of Samantha and Liam Pelkey of Tamworth. She was predeceased by
her sister Dorothy (Ralph) MacPherson, her brothers George (Elsie),
Frank, and Lloyd (Pauline) Fanning. She was the special aunt of
Joyce Preston, Reg Fetterly, Judith Fanning, and Jim Bennett,
all deceased. She is survived by her sister-in-law Florence Fanning
of London, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will
be sadly missed by her old friends in Winchester, and her new
friends at the Hartford Retirement Centre. "Gone from sight
but never from our hearts."
Annie was the oldest member of the former St. Mathias Anglican
Church. She served on the Altar Guild, worked at bazaars, teas,
and card parties, and was a member of the Ladies Guild. She worked
in the store alongside her husband for years, served as a Cub
Scout leader, and served Meals on Wheels.
She travelled across Canada, spent winters in Florida, and visited
the British Isles and Holland. She kept up correspondence with
the Dutch family her husband had been billeted with during the
war for over 60 years.
The funeral was held on March 1 at the Daniels Funeral Chapels
in Winchester, officiated by Father Craig Bowers of Morrisburg,
Father Robert Assaly of Killaloe, formerly of Winchester, and
family friend Rev. Sonia Ireson of Hamilton. The soloist was Meghann
Baker of Ottawa accompanied by Sarah Cogan of Embrun. Interment
of cremated remains will be held in the spring at Maple Ridge
Cemetery in Chesterville.
The honourary pallbearers were Max Boyd, Blake Taylor, Rob Preston,
and Chris Doeschot of Holland. The pallbearers were Ken Arsenault,
Bruce Kerr, Ron Lewis, John McClenahan, Richard Fanning, and David
Fanning.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated
by the family.
